Barcelona
A widely recognized icon of Barcelona is Sagrada Familia, a fantastic
unfinished church, designed by Antoni Gaudi. Sagrada Familia
is a true symbol of the city. Barcelona is famous for presenting
traditional ideas in new, often outrageous forms. Constant building
and innovation is taking place throughout the city. The complexity
of Barcelona is rather invigorating. Barcelona is a popular European
destination since 1992, when it hosted the Summer Olympics, and has
an energetic and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Barcelona can be visited on any time of the year, thanks to its
Mediterranean location. As a result, the city enjoys mild, pleasant
climate most of the time. In January, the temperature rarely
falls below 50 F/10 C. At the same time, summers aren’t especially
hot though relatively high humidity can make them uncomfortable.
Rain is rare, but can be heavy when it occurs. Most locals take their
vacations in August, leaving the city half-empty. Barcelona is a
walking city so the best way to get around it is on foot and by public
transportation. Barcelona has extremely efficient metro along with
the city railway network and a huge fleet of buses.
